Deep Learning by Prof. Jürgen Schmidhuber

Machine learning and pattern recognition are currently being revolutionised by „Deep Learning“ Artificial Neural Networks (NN) [14]. My lab has been working on this since 1991 [1-10]. In 2009, our recurrent NN were the first to win official international competitions [4]. So far, our team has won nine contests [5,6,7,9,14] (more than any other research group or company), and achieved the first superhuman visual pattern recognition results [5]. We also built the first artificial agent that learns from scratch complex control based on high-dimensional vision [10]. Time permitting, I’ll also address curious and creative machines [11,12] and theoretically optimal, universal, self-modifying artificial intelligences [13].
